Wilson Multi-sensory Reading Support Class

6 Week Multi-Sensory Strategies for 2nd and 3rd Graders

The Wilson Reading System is the gold standard in teaching students with language-based disabilities, such as dyslexia. According to their website, the Wilson Reading System “directly addresses phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, decoding, encoding, advanced word analysis, high frequency/sight word instruction, vocabulary development, single word automaticity and fluency with connected text, oral expressive language development, listening and reading comprehension with visualization and metacognition.”

During this class, led by a Wilson Reading certified teacher, children will be informally assessed to determine their current phonics skillset, and weekly plans will be tailored to their needs. We will engage in multi-sensory activities using movement and a variety of tactile materials to practice letter sounds including short and long vowels, blends, digraphs, Bossy R, diphthongs, etc. Students will also practice segmenting and blending sounds in order to decode and spell words accurately.
